(the) Toilet Creatures are officially no more. Matt, who plays guitar and does vocals, is still working on a couple songs, plans on recording them, and then releasing them at some point in time, but besides that, the Toilet Creatures are basically no more. Jordan, who onced drummed for the Toilet Creatures, now plays guitar and sings for a hippie band. Tom Furlack (aka Tom Ferlaak), who played bass on the More the Merrier demo, i think is somewhere in California somewhere. Micah, who did some singing and bass action on the What Are You Staring At? CD on Smart Ass Records, is singing for a metal-punk-crossover kind of band. it just so happens that Matt, from the Toilet Creatures, is playing drums for the same band, at least while he's in Minnesota. Matt is currently traveling the US and the World and will probably be back home sometime around the Fall of 2005 or so to continue drumming for the band.
so now that you're kinda up to speed, what next? how about a little history lesson? the Toilet Creatures started around February of 1996. Micah, who played bass, and Matt, who played guitar, started out the band. various people have drummed for the Toilet Creatures over the years, but the only really official drummer was Jordan. Jordan, who has been friends with Matt and Micah since 6th grade, was drumming for the band Sound Spazm around the Fall of 1996. Micah and Matt asked Jordan if he'd like to drum for the Toilet Creatures too, he said yeah, and in December of 1996 the Toilet Creatures got themselves a new band member. so the Toilet Creatures practiced, played some shows, and in the Spring of 1998 recorded some songs, a bunch of them that were written way back in 8th grade, and put out a CD called What Are You Staring At? on Smart Ass Records. then in the Fall of 1999 Micah left the band on good terms and the Toilet Creatures got a new bassist, Joel, who had played bass for Sound Spazm. In January of 2000 Joel left the band because he didn't have time for it, so the Toilet Creatures picked up Tom Furlack (aka Tom Ferlaak) to play bass. in March of 2000, Jordan, Matt, and Tom, all seniors in high school at the time, recorded the More the Merrier demo. currently this demo is just sitting around, but you can get various songs from it off the web and on a couple compilations. it'll probably be released sometime around 2006, just for shits and giggles. Matt is probably gonna go back and re-record a bunch of the songs though.
so that's a bit of a history lesson for you. if you're still reading this, i'm impressed, i would've taken one look at the page and said skrew that. so what about the music of the Toilet Creatures? well, the Toilet Creatures play what they call mushcore. mushcore has a few different meanings. first of all, mushcore is like a noise that is just a sloppy mess. it's music where one can't really tell what the hell is going on. a guitar that's distorted, drums pounding ten times faster than your heart beat, and a bass that's clean and clinky. another way to look at mushcore is by looking at those sleigh riders with all of their huskie type of dogs that they go cruising around with. you know how they say, "Mush! Mush!" to get the dogs to go faster? well, if you look at it in that way. the Toilet Creatures play fast, so mushcore could be translated as go fast core. that's all that i have on that explanation. the last way to look at mushcore is by the viewpoint of influences. all of the members of the Toilet Creatures have different influences, even within members, influences can be on different ends of the spectrum. so if you take all of the influences and put them into one band, it's kinda like a pile of mush, hence, mushcore.
okay, mushcore has been explained, what next? not a whole lot. the release of the More the Merrier demo CD along with some remakes and new songs on a CD, plus some old demos and songs from live shows. and that would probably be it. when will it come out? who really knows, but hopefully sometime in 2006, we'll see. and you are still reading this...
